  1. Happy Tu B’Shvat, the New Year for Trees. This was Duvidl’s mother’s favourite festival and every Tu B’shvat our family would be provided with a bowl of nine different new fruits, as exotic as possible. Today Duvidl saw pomegranates, star fruits, sharon fruits, passion fruits, kiwi fruits, grapefruits, lychees, melons and oranges for sale. He bought some for the family.

  2. Oh, Duvidl forgot nectarines, mangos, pineapple and a Turkish pear (never tried before), all in the front room. It should take us a week or so to sample them, some from Israel.

  3. Oh, and in case you thought Duvidl forgot bananas, which he used to pick as a volunteer on Kibbutz Ein Gev on the Sea of Galilee thirty years ago, he did not. He saw some, but they seemed over-ripe. So he took the opportunity to remember a Professor he had known well at Cambridge, who developed a spray coating for preserving bananas during international trans-shipment.
