BBC’s dual standards on terror attacks continue

On the evening of July 26th a terror attack took place in the community of Geva Binyamin (Adam), north of Jerusalem.

“The regional council spokesman said the terrorist climbed over Adam’s security fence. He then walked deeper into the settlement, crossing a playground area, where he encountered the 31-year-old resident, and stabbed him repeatedly in the upper torso. A second resident, the 58-year-old, came out of a nearby home and was also stabbed. A third resident, hearing the disturbance, went outside and, realizing that an attack was occurring, shot the Palestinian terrorist three times, killing him.”

Doctors were unable to save the life of the first victim, who was later named as Yotam Ovadia – a father of two young children.

Early on the morning of July 27th the BBC News website published a report titled “Israeli stabbed to death by Palestinian in West Bank attack” on its Middle East page.

As is inevitably the case in BBC reporting on terror attacks against Israelis (but not when reporting attacks in the UK or Europe), the BBC refrained from describing the attack as terrorism, with the only reference to terror coming in a direct quote from an Israeli official.

“An Israeli civilian has been stabbed to death in a settlement near Ramallah in the occupied West Bank.

The 31-year-old victim was taken to hospital where he died of his injuries, a hospital spokesman said.

Two other Israelis were wounded in the attack in Adam on Thursday. One, aged 50, is in a critical condition and the other suffered minor injuries.

The Israeli army says the attacker was shot and killed, reportedly by a civilian who was passing by.

It says troops will be sent to nearby Kubar village, where the 17-year-old Palestinian attacker is reported to have lived.

“The terrorist infiltrated the community of Adam, north of Jerusalem, and stabbed three civilians,” the army said in a statement. “Troops arrived at the scene and are searching the area.””

The BBC did not bother to update its article after the victim’s identity was made public.

Readers were also given the following piece of context-free information:

“Palestinian militant group Hamas said the attack was an act of heroism and revenge for three fighters who were killed in Gaza on Wednesday.”

The BBC however had not reported that previous incident, meaning that audiences were unaware of the fact that it began when:

“Soldiers patrolling the southern part of the Gaza Strip border came under fire Wednesday evening from a sniper within the Hamas-controlled territory, according to the IDF.

The Israeli military later said an officer was moderately wounded by the sniper fire. It said he was taken to Soroka Medical Center in the southern city of Beersheba for treatment.”

Neither do BBC audiences know that Hamas used a group of children to draw the patrol to the area.

“According to the IDF, the sniper fire came as a group of IDF soldiers arrived at a part of the fence that saw a group of 20 minors rioting on the other side. The minors were used as a decoy by the sniper to fire on the soldiers. […]

Military sources told Army Radio late Wednesday…that Hamas had encouraged the demonstration by young Gazans at the fence, drawing an IDF patrol, and then its snipers opened fire on the soldiers.”

Israel responded to the incident with strikes on Hamas military installations in which the members of the terror organisation described by the BBC as “three fighters” were killed. BBC audiences have also not been informed that during the same incident, terrorists in the Gaza Strip launched nine rockets at Israeli civilian communities.

The latter part of the report was given over to what was clearly intended to be background information. Despite the number of terror attacks having declined over the past year, the BBC told its audiences that:

“There has been a wave of stabbings, shootings and car-rammings of Israelis predominantly by Palestinians or Israeli Arabs since late 2015.

Dozens of Israelis have been killed in nearly three years of mainly lone-wolf attacks.

Some 300 Palestinians – most of them assailants, Israel says – have also been killed in that period, according to news agencies. Others have been killed in clashes with Israeli troops.” [emphasis added]

As we see, “in nearly three years” the BBC has still not bothered to independently confirm that information itself.

An old mantra was once again recycled:

“Israel says Palestinian incitement has fuelled the attacks. The Palestinian leadership has blamed frustration rooted in decades of Israeli occupation.”

It is worth remembering that since the surge in terror attacks began in late 2015, the BBC has consistently failed to provide its audiences with any serious reporting on the topic of incitement and glorification of terrorism by Palestinian officials. Readers are hence unable to judge for themselves whether or not what “Israel says” is accurate.

Likewise, it is noteworthy that the portrayal of terrorism as being attributable to “frustration rooted in decades of occupation” conforms to a guidance document for members of the international media put out by the PLO in November 2015.

The report closed with the BBC’s standard one-sided presentation of ‘international law’:

“More than 600,000 Jews live in about 140 settlements built since Israel’s 1967 occupation of the West Bank and East Jerusalem. The settlements are considered illegal under international law, though Israel disputes this.

There are also some 100 outposts – small settlements built without the government’s authorisation.”

  1. What this writer and others who parrot the current government line is the fact you cannot criticise Hamas and the rest for terrorism when at best you airbrush the evil murderous Jewish terrorists of the late 1940s and at worst completely deny it

You need to come to terms with your history and accept what occurred . That is when you can criticise Hamas and other for their murderous intent.

Until then you will simply be rightly seen as a complete hypocrite.

    • Ridiculous equivalence to draw, accepting what occured in previous years has no bearing on the issues of today. What happened in the 1940s and before, was dog eat dog, where the British were mandated to police and administer the British Mandate of Palesiting and failed miserably, for example the slaughter that took place in Hebron in 1929 of a large number of Jewish residents of Hebron, does that justify retaliation against Arabs? of course not. However yes, it may have happened but so many years ago how can anyone claim it was justified as there is nobody alive to argue the fact. However your particular argument, to use any previous actions as justification for the current practice of incitement to and approval of by Hamas and the PA, to terrorism shows that people like you have no moral compass. Israel withdrew from Gaza 13 years ago and are not attacking Palestinians except as retaliation for rockets or firebombs, firekites, car rammings or indeed sniper assassinations. Aid has never stopped being allowed through the border however shortages take place because of theft of those provisions and denial of them by Hamas and PA. You seem happy cherry pick bits of history to suit your agenda of the day, but that in no way justifies murdering people in their homes by stabbing them to death.

    • What nottrampis continues to parrot is anti-Israel propaganda. S/he ignores facts that are inconvenient. For one thing, the major Jewish underground, the Palmach, issued warnings and they confined their attacks to military targets. Your Palestinian heroes never issue warnings and they deliberately target civilians. The fact that you cannot differentiate between the two underscores Neil’s point: you have no moral compass.

  2. Story – An Arab and a Jew each build a house next-door in Judea. According to the BBC, the Arab is entitled to live in his house, the Jew is not entitled to live in his house.
If that is not racism, what is ?

  3. complete bollocks written here, Jewish terrorists massacred Palestinian villages. That is why they left in terror and in droves because the leaflets told them if they did not they would be killed. You do reailse there are still plenty of survivors living? you cannot falsify history because of that . Irving found that out. you people are in his ilk! how irionic.

you cannot ignore history nor even try to revise whilst the living survivors still live.

I can criticise Hams because I see murder for what it is. you lot cant because you make excuses or worse

    • Now whose talking B’ks, the majority of Palestinians left of their own accord because they were advised to do so by the Mufti of Jerusalem and the Jordanian invading army, yes there may have been some heavy handed soldiers in a war situation there often are civilian casualties. There are many videos on-line made by surviving Palestinians who were removed from their homes where they admit they were not attacked or injured, do your research, ah but you prefer just to whinge, the old chip on the shoulder syndrome. But for each one of the Palestinians that were treated badly there were just as many if not more Jews killed, injured, raped and tortured escaping from or being frogmarched from Egypt, Morocco, Libya Syria etc, they were also mistreated and there were 800,000 of them more considerably than the 500,000 Palestinians displaced. If your family were involved in this brutality as my in-laws were, you can take it from me that holding a grudge against a country for something that took place so many years ago will only make you into a bitter old person. Look how the Arabs that stayed have prospered. Move on accept that it was a fight for survival on both sides and that the surrounding Arab armies were unable to do what they promised they would and wipe out the Jewish Nation, learn to live with the truth and put out the hand of friendship rather than what the PA and Hamas are doing and speaking with false tongues and inciting violence with one mouth and telling the world they want peace with the other

      • I should have guessed you would be a denialist. When Palestinians are massacred and the government showers leaflets in villages saying leave or you will be killed then people flee for their lives. The terrorists were used by Ben Gurion, Neither Begin nor Shamir who went on to become PM there ever apologized for their atrocities. For petes sake they are still people alive from this occurring.

Jewish terrorists are okay but Palestinian terrorists are not. complete and utter hypocrisy

  4. What have I denied? and seeing as you so good at accusing folk, give us some documented facts about what you claim Begin actually did wrong apart from fight the British and the Arabs in 47/48 with the Irgun. BTW he has been dead for 26 years FFS. Get over it……Shamir is also dead has been for 6 years, would you like them both to come back and apologise for something, spit it out, get it off your chest facts figures dates places. I’m waiting

      • Despite the Arab guards opening fire first, that action was condemned by the Hagana which is a trait that no Palestinian leader, be it Yasser Arafat, Maarshal or Abbas has so far never taken, indeed exactly the opposite they praise their terrorism, paying their family a stipend and naming school and streets after them. Every country has a dark side but you just want to demonize Israel. I note your actual reply was completely devoid of information as usual.

          • No you are wrong this blog is about the corrupt BBC who do not comply with their royal mandate of impartiality and constantly demonize Israel as you are continuing to do for something that happended before we were even born, get over it.

          • You fool,
            you cannot dismiss history.
That is why you have such a hellish place now.moreover until the whoie region comes to terms with the history it will always be a hellhole.

This is why the only people who can criticise Hamas terrorists today are those who criticise Jewish terrorists of yesteryear

          • You just love calling people names don’t you, just like a child, whenever you are losing an argument you call me some name or throw an insult at me. Still no documented facts so I repeat, get over it. I am not dismissing history, but I am dismissing your justification for the perpetuation of attacks on the communities near the border fence, your support of which just goes to show your allegiances.

          • Learn to read. I have never justified an attack on anyone. I am the ONLY person who is consistent on this.

            no documented facts?? Die Yassin.

I am the only person here who has no allegiances at all.

as Santayana said many years ago those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it. A biblcal reference would be the book of Judges.do not understand their history are doomed to repeat it.

People who do this are fools.

          • Oh yes super blogger the ONLY person who is right and everyone else is wrong…..But still no documented facts, Die Yassin, is just the name of an event in history, which can not possibly be classed as documentary evidence. I am certainly not suggesting anyone should forget, I am suggesting people move on from it and learn from it……..Jews have not survived for over 3,500 years by forgetting the past, we remember and learn from it, It seems large parts of the world are incapable of doing so. As Sir Winston Churchill said “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts”

          • over 500 people were murdered 250 at Deir Yassin. Plenty of books have documented this.
Israel was created in as place where Muslims hated them because of their satanic Koran. Christians had no -problem. They then stole land from the people occupying the land, David Ben Gurion was quite explicit about this.
Unfortunately Jews stole land from both groups.
Until all people come to terms with this no-one will move on. you quite clearly have not.
I have suggested a good start would be to acknowledge this and offer compensation.

The Balkans and northern Ireland are but two examples in which history has created problems which still emanate today. northern Ireland could well be overcoming theirs.
            Try learning from it.
It is in your interests to live in peace not a hell hole.

          • On that crock conclusion then it is time that the Arab governments of the Middle East, that expelled 800,000 Jews between 1922 and 1956 often forcibly, if not murderously from their own lands in Syria, Egypt, Jordan, Libya etc by implementing apartheid government policies to stifle their businesses, verbal and physical threats, theft of businesses, theft of property, theft of land, passing laws that made them second class citizens, forcing them to pay Jizya. Again showing your gross ignorance it is the Muslims that follow the the satanic Quran, written by a dimented prophet who believed that it was ok create a political and ideological cult that teaches it’s followers to practice bestiality, rape, incest, have more than one wife, marry 6 year old girls, wage war on anyone who does not follow Islam in order to create a world wide caliphate. Jews actually follow the Torah, the 5 books of Moses as do most Christians and yes there are verses in there that thankfully are not practiced today and are indeed distasteful. You claim we should live in peace however Islam does not want that indeed even forbids it, we should submit to this twisted ideology of Islam which makes women slaves to their mysogenistic men, able to be traded lke cattle. Churchill once said “What kind of people do they think we are? Is it possible they do not realize that we shall never cease to persevere against them until they have been taught a lesson which they and the world will never forget?”

  5. Of course should have read “On that crock conclusion then it is time that the Arab governments of the Middle East made reparation to the 800,000 Jews”

    • You cannot be guided by what other governments do. Israel surely believes it is a Western Style Government with the values that this entails

Err read properly I said the koran is satanic.

      • No you actually wrote “Israel was created in as place where Muslims hated them because of their satanic Koran. Christians had no -problem.” which to anyone reads:- as though Israel was created because of their satanic Quran, but hey nobody is perfect, but in reality Israel was actually created at least 1500 years before Islam was invented.

        • sunshine, this is not the first time I have called the islam religion satanic at this site.

The Koran is the ‘holy book’ of islam not Jews. everyone knows that.
