BBC’s Danahar Tweets a “nothing to see – move along” on bullying of Orthodox youths

Many were shocked by the film which appeared on the internet a couple of weeks ago showing two young Orthodox Jews being abused and bullied by a group of youths in Jerusalem.

Now Ha’aretz reports that some of those allegedly involved in the incident have been arrested.

And the head of the BBC’s Jerusalem Bureau makes his position on the story crystal clear, turning an abusive incident into a mere snowball fight and implying over-reaction on the part of the Israeli authorities.

Remember – this is a man responsible for ensuring that the news reaching BBC audiences from Israel is accurate and impartial.

Update: Two hours later, Danahar got round to doing the research:

The perils of knee-jerk Tweeting strike the BBC’s Jerusalem Bureau yet again.

Update 2: Yet another member of the BBC’s Jerusalem Bureau with a ‘Tweet then maybe check’ policy:

  1. I cannot imagine how this standard would be acceptable at basic GCSE level.

The BBC has an education website. Might I respectfully suggest Danahar, Davies and Co are introduced to it? Learning the basics of research might be helpful.

The problem is that when you have such persistent negligence and sloppiness involving several reporters, it would not be a giant stride to question the overall standard of journalists employed by the BBC.

  2. Oh they think the Israeli’s were over re-acting did they ? Maybe if this was a single incident . But we know this is just the tip of the iceberg . Shame on the perpetrators.

  3. Just imagine the bbc’s outrage if a bunch if Israeli ‘youths’ had snow-balled a couple of muslims in such a manner as shown in this footage. The depths of depravity shown by muslims at all times is only matched by the depravity of the bbc’s portrayal of Jews and particularly Israelis. They deserve each other; it’s just a pity we can’t wall off the bbc to protect us from their viciousness.

    • Where is your outrage when settlers attack Palestinian children on their way to school? These are well documented as are attacks on farmers working their land and what do the IDF do about it? Nothing! As they have only hypocrites to answer to! What the group of Arab lads did to the two Orthodox boys was both shocking and nasty. However,I understand that the police were aware this was going on and did not intervene. Also what is the role of the film crew in all this? Furthermore the incident must have been witnessed by many motorists who just blithly passed by.
On past experience any palestinian youth ‘arrested’ by the police or IDF is likely to suffer much worse teatment than that meeted out to the two Jewish boys.
Once again,on the pages of this blog one ‘evil’ is used as a stick to beat those criticising a greater crime.Gross hypocrisy!

      • sprat evil – why do you think it’s necessary to keep changing your name?
You show time and time again you have no regard for any human life – just a twisted agenda.

          • So long as it isn’t Mohammed I’m far from evil. I’m so glad Muslims are too ridiculous in the way they ‘protect their faith’ to countenance having a cuddly toy called by that name.
What’s your problem with picnics, or shitting in the woods for that matter?

How do you pronounce your name?
            SsssPrat Evil?
            SeparateEVille?
            Separate y Vile?
            Any of them would fit.

      • Thayer…that name sounds familiar…

glad to see you use the situation of two Jews being attacked with racial epithets to…attack the Jews!

          • Yes, warped to wonder why a post about two Jews being racially abused gets turned into an..attack on Jews!

            Sprats, you’re the warped racist.

          • poor sprats the racist victim…yes they were being racially abused, they were called rcist epithets and were invited to die by the Palestinians. If you had bothered reading anything about the story, you would know that.

And why were they being bullied? Do you think their being Jewish had something to do with it? Your defence of such behaviour is despicable, but then as a Jew hating racist yourself, I guess that comes quite easily.

          • Perhaps I stand corrected. However there is something out there uglier and nastier than racism. It’s racism combined with murderous intent! I wonder if the brave lads of the IDF invited a young Palestinian woman to die earlier today? Apparently she accepted the invitation and they are still washing the blood from their hands. What is your warped response to that Mr Levic?

This is why you are an ugly and nasty species Prat – you support those who make it there stated reason for being.

            Twisted Arse!

          • Elvis Presley had a hit called ‘Teddy Bear’ it was pretentious and crap. He should have stuck with Sun Records. Why is your record still stuck so-called Ted?

          • sprattyville, indeed you are corrected.

But you’re still a rabid Jew hater. Only a Jew hater uses an opportunity of a racist attack against Jews to himself launch an attack on Jews. You should be ashamed of yourself.

          • You seem to be  incapable of presenting a coherent argument. Furthermore,it would appear you have a poor grasp of English. How else does one explain your conclusion that I am a “jew-hater”. The remarks I made in the post were entirely sympathetic to the two victims of the bullying. Anyone witnessing this incident would have drawn the same conclusions. It was ugly and it was wrong! Your problem is that everything around you is viewed through a red mist of fear, hatred and paranoia. In the circumstances I suppose it is perfectly natural for you to weigh in with insults and bile. Get rid of the red mist and you might discover that there is a future.

Where is your outrage when settlers attack Palestinian children on their way to school? These are well documented as are attacks on farmers working their land and what do the IDF do about it?

Therefore the subsequent accusations levelled at you are correct, and your attempt to squirm out of it a waste of time for anybody who has any intelligence. Your only making a bigger fool out of yourself than you are already.

The post here was not about settlers or any other scum that purposefully attacks children. What is galling is that you show continual support for the very mindset that does it on a daily basis all over the Muslim world. This makes you ‘ONE OF THEM!

          • sprats, the red mist is in front of your own eyes – only a rabid Jewhater can turn this story into an attack on…Jews!

  4. In the uk this would be assault with a racial motive and thus a serious offence. This makes the bbc even more hypocritical and disingenuous than usual.

    Steve Cohen

  5. Just as the Guardian seems to be the go-to newspaper for BBC hacks, so it seems is Ha’aretz.
The initial tweet would appear to be fuelled by sheer prejudice against religious Jews on Danahar’s part. Despicable and disgusting. He should get a dressing down, but of course he won’t.
It was indeed a nasty incident, consisting of unprovoked harassment and assault during which one of the Charedim had his headgear pulled off – how Danahar and the rest of the pack would be crowing with outrage had a Muslim passer by had a hijab pulled off her head by Jewish youths.
